Dental Insurance in San Jose, CA
Understanding what your dental insurance actually covers can feel more complicated than it should be. Plans vary widely in what they pay, which providers they include, and how benefits apply to different treatments. Navigating that landscape on your own often leads to confusion, delayed care, and unexpected out-of-pocket costs.
At Aqua Dentistry, located just north of Willow Glen in the Midtown area of San Jose, we take the guesswork out of using your benefits. Our knowledgeable team is familiar with a wide range of insurance plans and works directly with patients to help them understand their coverage, maximize their benefits, and access the care they need without financial stress. Part of our financial information is making sure you feel informed and confident before you ever sit down in the chair.
Dental Insurance We Accept
We are proud to work with a broad network of insurance providers to serve as many patients as possible in the San Jose area. Accepting a wide variety of plans reflects our commitment to accessible, patient-first care.
Aqua Dentistry is in-network with the Connection Dental Network, which includes coverage through many of today’s most recognized insurance carriers. The following are among the plans accepted through that network:
- Aetna: accepted through Aetna Health Management, LLC, including dental Medicare Advantage plans
- MetLife: accepted through MetLife Insurance Company (PDP Plus)
- Guardian: accepted through Guardian Life Insurance Company of America
- Humana: accepted through Humana Dental Insurance, including Humana PPO and Medicare Advantage options
- United Healthcare: accepted through United Healthcare, including several Medicare Advantage plans
- United Concordia: accepted through United Concordia Inc., including BCBS of MI and Highmark plans
- Principal Financial Group: accepted for eligible plan members
- Renaissance Dental: accepted for eligible plan members
- GEHA: accepted through GEHA Connection Dental Plus and FEDVIP plans
This is not a complete list of every carrier or plan we work with. Because not all employer groups utilize the same network fee schedule, we always recommend verifying your specific benefits and eligibility directly with your insurer before your visit.
Our team is happy to assist with that process and answer questions along the way.

How Your Dental Benefits Work
Understanding Your Plan
Most dental insurance plans are structured around three categories of care: preventive, basic, and major. Preventive services, such as routine general dentistry visits, cleanings, and x-rays, are typically covered at the highest percentage. Basic services like fillings and extractions are usually covered at a moderate rate, while major procedures such as crowns, bridges, and implants tend to involve a larger patient portion.
Plans also include an annual maximum, which is the highest dollar amount your insurance will pay per calendar year. Once that limit is reached, any additional treatment becomes the patient’s responsibility until the plan renews. This is why timing your care strategically, especially for larger procedures, can make a meaningful difference in what you ultimately pay out of pocket.
Making the Most of Your Benefits
Many patients leave money on the table each year because their benefits reset without being fully used. Staying current on your routine visits is one of the most effective ways to get value from your plan while protecting your long-term oral health. According to the American Dental Association, more than 1 in 5 adults ages 19 to 64 have no dental benefits at all, making it all the more important to take full advantage of your coverage when you have it.
Our front desk team reviews your benefits before your appointment so you arrive informed. We outline what your plan covers, what your estimated patient portion will be, and whether any waiting periods or limitations apply to the treatment you need.
What to Do if You Do Not Have Insurance
Not having dental insurance does not mean going without care. Aqua Dentistry offers an in-house membership plan through Clerri designed for patients without coverage. For a flat monthly or annual fee, members receive two professional cleanings, two exams, routine x-rays, fluoride treatments, and one emergency exam per year, depending on the tier selected. There are no deductibles, no waiting periods, and no annual maximums. All members also receive a 20% discount on additional procedures completed at the practice.
Plan options include a Child Complete tier for patients 13 and younger starting at $38 per month, an Adult Complete tier for patients 14 and older starting at $43 per month, and Perio maintenance tiers for patients managing periodontal disease. You can enroll directly at our front desk, at clerri.com/PX7M, or by scanning the QR code on our membership flyer. For patients who need additional financing, we also offer CareCredit to help spread the cost of treatment over time.
